About five kilometers from De Groene Hartelijkheid lies the picturesque town of Oudewater. The historical facades along the canals in the town centre are well worth a visit. The world-famous Heksenwaag  explains the history of the witch prosecution in Europe. Touwmuseum De Baanschuur  gives an insight in the rope industry, to which Oudewater owed her prosperity in the old days. Every Wednesday from 11am thru 4pm there is a market.

In our country we love cheese. Have you always wanted to know more about cheese and how it is made? Visit the Woerden cheese warehouse.

On the Saturday regional market you will find lots of delicious regional products from the Groene Hart

De Groene Hartelijkheid is the ideal starting point for hikes, bike and canoeing trips in the vast polder landscape of the Groene Hart. There are various hiking trails in the area, such as the Pelgrimspad. The Gouden Eeuw Driehoek is a bike trip linking the three historical towns of Gouda, Schoonhoven and Oudewater. The river Vlist, which is close-by, is suitable for canoe trips. Bikes and canoes are for hire at the kanocentrum in Haastrecht.

Haastrecht, a few kilometers from the Groene Hartelijkheid, houses museum Bisdom van Vliet. Special about this home museum are the authentic interiors from the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The weekly market is held on Thursday at Kleine Haven.
